Walter Allen Rogers Jr, the Cleveland born artist, exhibited
an appreciation for the arts as a child. At the early age of six he reserved Saturdays exclusively for classes at the
Cleveland Museum of Art. His exceptional talent blossomed in the Museum"s classes for gifted and talented students.In
addition to his art, Mr. Rogers has done lighting for two plays at the Nationally renowned Karamu House Theater, around the
same time. After an honorable discharge from the U. S. Air Force, Mr. Rogers moved to New York City, where he spends
the next 25 years drawing and painting in ideal location he found beneath the George Washington Bridge, next to a little red
lighthouse, where the" light is marvelous all day and there is a perpetual movement of clouds and water".
Among other things,
Mr. Rogers is currently preparing a traveling exhibition of drawings, paintings, and photographs of African-American women
of Native American descent entitled, “Sanctuary of the Black Butterfly ” His talents received
international attention for the presentation of the original artwork of the Cleveland Unity Day logo to the United Nations
located in New York City, in 1998.
